Origin of the name “Recoaro”
The first group of settlements date back to the Middle Ages, when the populations of “Cimbra” origin descended from the north and colonized these lands that still reveal, in the name of some places and customs handed down by tradition, their ancient Germanic roots.
The term “Requaro” was found in the oldest documents, in 1327 and in 1329. It is very likely that its origin comes from the union of the terms rech (or rake to rake fixed poles) and fourth (which in the Bavarian dialect of the eleventh and twelfth centuries meant Fioreta) for which the interpretation that you can give is “muddy terrain with stones. ”
To confirm this, historians say that the area of the bottom of the valley was once a marshy ground and full of mud and stones from Rotolon (source of the stream Agno). The land was reclaimed by the first inhabitants of the area with rakes and bridle made of stones to drain the water.
